We prefer the cold call in a Class C TRACON.

Patience, young penguin. Give them a second to respond before you try again.
Step 2:
They’ll call you back. Be ready.
Step 3: This is your time to shine
- Where are you?
- Where are you going?
- What are you flying?
- What altitude will you be using?
“November 123 over GSO, flight following to Lynchburg, Skyhawk, five thousand five hundred”
Step 4:
The controller will issue a code. Dial it in while reading back your callsign and code.
Step 5:
The controller will radar identify you and give you a local altimeter setting. Welcome to the club.
The heavens will open, angels will sing, and you’ll start getting traffic calls.
